In our practice, subluxation refers to a section of the spine being misaligned. Our spines typically have a defined ‘S’ shape to keep our bodies balanced and mobilized, however, that ‘S’ shape should only be visible from a side profile. With a forward-facing view, the spine should be fairly straight up and down. Often we find patients with misaligned and dysfunctional vertebrae in their spine, also known as subluxation.

When a subluxation is discovered, we know the spine itself needs to be adjusted. This terminology allows us to effectively communicate with our patients, helping them understand the importance of a fully aligned and functional spine. After all, the spine is the center point of our bodies and when it can’t function to the fullest extent of its potential, our whole body will be negatively affected. Not to mention, misaligned vertebrae can pinch and inflame nerves, resulting in chronic back pain.
